Galaxy Evolution: Clues from the Fossil Record

While the basic properties of galaxies at z ~ 0 are well-studied, how they acquired them remains unsolved problem. I will describe results from our NOAO survey of red-sequence galaxies in clusters, and how the fossil record of their star-formation, as encoded in their spectra, can be used to tease out the surprising "anti-hierarchical" behaviour of these massive galaxies.
