Dear Phy010-B students:
Welcome to the class.
Soon I will send to you the syllabus of the course. First thing to note is
that there will be no discussion sessions on Wednesday, 1/7/03. The first
class of our course starts on Thursday, 1/8/03. [First homework (to be handed
out in the first Thursday class) will be due by noon time, Thursday, 1/15/03,
in a box in front of Mr. Tappel's office, 410 Phy/Geo.]
What prompted me to send you this e-mail now is the news about the Mars rover,
http://msnbc.msn.com/ID/3855168/. The report is quite interesting and have
a couple of free videos about the project. Its landing countdown will be
tonight, Sat. 1/3/04.
E-mail will be an important tool for our communication, as will be explained
in the syllabus. When you send me an e-mail, please always put in the Subject
field: "010-B0n: xxx," in which put your Subsection number of the course
for "n", and write a few words about the content of your e-mail at "xxx".
This will be important for me to respond to your e-mail (minimizing the chance
of it being deleted with junk mails) and for my filing the e-mail.
As always, it will be great to hear from you.
Best wishes for a happy and productive 2004!
Ling-Lie
