Research Interests: Relativistic Heavy Ion Physics

I am working in studies of heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Lab. I participate in the STAR Experiment, where I'm interested in a measurement of production of heavy quark mesons. In particular, I am working towards a measurement of the J/ψ (a bound state of a charm and an anti charm quark). If in the collisions at RHIC the temperatures and energy densities are high enough to deconfine the quarks and gluons making up the colliding nuclei, we expect from theoretical calculations some modifications of the properties of the J/ψ particles due to the presence of deconfined matter. In the STAR experiment, one can carry out a measurement of the J/ψ meson by reconstructing the decay J/ψ → e+e- using tracking and electromagnetic calorimetry for electron identification. My focus is in developing triggers to use the detector to measure the production of these states in the collisions.
