Overview: Smaller Programs
The department also has smaller research programs
in experimental nuclear physics (Cebra) through
the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic
Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, high energy
astrophysics (Ferenc and
Tripathi)
by doing ground-based gamma-ray astronomy with air cherenkov telescopes CACTUS
and MAGIC, and physics education
(Potter) through
our innovative Physics 7 course
which concentrates on interactive learning for biology majors. The Department
of Physics also actively participates in the Computational
Science and Engineering Center (CSEC), headed by Rundle, a half
time Physics faculty member. Crutchfield
is the other physics faculty member associated with the center, which also
has faculty members in Mathematics, Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering,
and Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.
