Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) have been established as useful techniques for studying the surface structure of a wide variety of materials, finding applications in the fields of physics, chemistry, engineering and biology. The STM group at UC Davis, supervised by Prof. Shirley Chiang, is utilizing STM and AFM measurements, in combination with other more standard surface science techniques, to investigate a broad range of problems relating to condensed matter physics and chemistry. These pages will describe the people, equipment and research activities in this group.
