The colloquium will review a broad group of experimental work claiming to have observed quantum coherence in SQUIDs and show that an equally compelling explanation can be presented based on nonlinear classical coupling between SQUIDs. This observation raises serious questions about the proper interpretation of the quantum coherence experiments.
