Sears and Zemansky's University Physics, Young & Freedman, 11th Edition, Volume 1 & 2
You also need a clicker for the new Interwrite PRS-RF system to answer quizzes and questions in class. You can get it from the bookstore. There should be a rebate coupon if you buy a new textbook.

Prerequisites: Phy9A, Math21C (We need partial derivatives and the chain rule.)

Corequisites: Math21D (Vector Analysis, not needed for this course but necessary for Phy9C next quarter.)

Important information about registration and changing sections:
You must register in a Discussion section and a Lab section. You must go to the lab on the first day. If you wish to make any changes to your lab, discussion, or lecture sections, you must obtain a PTA from your lab instructor. (You will be automatically dropped from the course if you try to change the sections without a PTA.) I don't have PTA's and therefore can not help you with registration issues. For the contact information of your lab instructor or other registration questions, please ask the student services of the Physics Department Office.

Grading:
        Reading quizzes: 14%
       Problem sets: 20%
       Midterm I: 18%
       Midterm II: 18%
       Final: 30%

       Bonus: based on your participations, up to 5% for the Discussion sections and up to 5% for in-class questions
Final grades will be curved. The cutoffs for A-, B-, and C- will roughly correspond to mean + 1 standard deviation, mean, and mean - 1 standard deviation respectively.

Midterms and Final Exams:
       Midterm I: Fri, Feb. 2, 12:10 - 1:00 PM, 66 Roessler, expected to cover Ch 15, 16, 33, 34
       Midterm II: Wed, Feb. 28, 12:10 - 1:00 PM, 66 Roessler, expected to cover Ch 35, 36, 17, 18
       (Note that I decide to move the 2nd Midterm to Wednesday from the original plan on Monday so that you can use the discussion sections and office hours on Monday and Tuesday to ask questions.)
       Final: Tue, Mar. 20, 1:30 -3:30 PM, covers everything in this course


There will be no make-up exams, so do not make travel plans on those dates. The exams are closed book. You are allowed to bring one 8.5''X11'' sheet of notes and a calculator. No cell phone, PDA, or laptop computer will be allowed. You also need to bring your own bluebooks for the exams.
