This initiative is a faculty recruitment plan for a multi-disciplinary initiative on the UC Davis campus focusing on the frontier of physics and information: a multi-disciplinary collaboration devoted to experimental/observational probes of Dark Energy and Dark Matter. This field is currently observationally driven, and the ultimate facility for probing this new physics is the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). Building on the strengths of the cosmology group, Universe@UCDavis involves close collaboration between Physics, CS, Math, and Statistics. Five of six new faculty have been hired in the four departments - two in Physics, one in CS, and one each in Math and Statistics.
